About Rhys

Piano teaching has always been my path

Rhys holds a Bachelor of Music degree, where piano performance was his primary study. Alongside his performance training, he took modules specifically to become the best teacher he could be, including instrumental teaching and learning, music psychology, and analysis.

He has over a decade of teaching experience, honing his skills and helping students engage with the piano, meeting and exceeding their initial expectations. He is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and holds a current DBS certificate.

The Lessons

Built around you, from the first note

Lessons are built around a proactive, structured approach. Rather than reacting to mistakes as they arise, the focus is on developing technique, musical understanding, and confidence together from the ground up. Theory is introduced where it naturally supports the music, not treated as a separate subject. Repertoire spans the full classical tradition, from Baroque through to Classical, Romantic, and Modern, including contemporary and avant-garde music for students who want to explore beyond the standard repertoire. ABRSM exam preparation is available for those who want it, though many students learn simply for their own enjoyment and do not follow a graded path.

Every lesson ends with a summary session. Together we look at what has been achieved in the lesson and set a clear direction for next time. This celebrates the improvements and progress always feel concrete.

Returning after time away?

The first lesson is as much a conversation as anything else, taking time to listen to your experience, your goals, and what has and has not worked for you before

Online Lessons

Nothing is lost online

Online lessons are available and work just as well as being in the room together. A dual-camera setup is used throughout: one camera shows my face clearly, while a second gives an overhead view of the keyboard, so nothing is lost technically or musically.

ABRSM exam preparation is fully supported online, including guidance on repertoire, scales, sight-reading, and aural tests.

For students with busy schedules, online lessons offer the convenience of learning from your own home without compromising on the quality of professional coaching. Lessons are scheduled to suit your timezone, with regular early-evening slots available for students in Singapore and Malaysia (GMT+8), and evening slots for students in the UK.

For families in Singapore and Malaysia, online lessons mean access to a UK-qualified, native English-speaking teacher without the commute. Lessons fit around international school schedules, and the time difference works in your favour.

Clear, straightforward fees

Most students begin with an initial consultation, followed by a starter block of five lessons. Once we know we are a good fit, many choose the ongoing study for the best progress and value.

All new enquiries begin with a 20 minute conversation to discuss your goals, experience, and what lessons would look like. This is not a lesson, it is an opportunity to outline your needs in detail and confirm the fit is right before committing to lessons. Parents of younger students are warmly encouraged to join. How It Works

A few things worth knowing upfront

Payment

Payment for the initial consultation and lesson blocks is to be made in advance. This keeps everything simple and secures your regular weekly slot.
Most students start with a starter block of 5, then move to ongoing study for the best progress and value.
Single ad-hoc lessons are available by arrangement at a higher rate, subject to my availability.
Payments in SGD or GBP are accepted via bank transfer.

Cancellation

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 48 hours' notice.
With 48 hours' notice, I will always do my best to find an alternative time within the same week.
Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice are forfeited, as the slot cannot be filled at short notice.

Scheduling

When you book a block, we agree on a regular weekly slot that becomes yours for the duration.
If your circumstances change and you need a different regular slot, just let me know. I will do my best to accommodate you, though this depends on availability.
Your next lesson is always confirmed at the end of each lesson so there is never any confusion.

Between Lessons

Every lesson ends with a clear summary of what was achieved and what to practise next.
You will always leave knowing exactly where you stand and what to focus on before we meet again.
